Last week I was invited to take part in filming for the May episode of The Book Circle, the lovely Cheryl Akle’s program, which airs on www.mamamia.com.au.
Being invited to join a panel that included legendary singer/songwriter Joy Mckean, who was married to Slim Dusty for over fifty years, and best-selling romance author Rachael Johns was a great privilege.
Joy has won six golden guitars, she’s written four books and quite rightly she’s a legend in the world of country music. Joy’s new book, detailing the journeying she did with Slim over many years, is called Riding This Road.
Rachael combines writing best selling novels with raising three children and helping to run a business in the wheat belt area of WA. Don’t ask me how, but she somehow found time to publish her fourth novel, Outback Blaze. If it’s anything like her others it’s bound to be a runaway best seller.
And then there’s Love in the Outback the deeply personal story of my journey from England to the Australian Outback, and from heartache to joy. It seems to have struck a chord with the people who’ve read it.
Here’s how nervous I was. Joy only needed two attempts to film her thirty second pitch and Rachael nailed it in one. I must have tried at least a dozen times before I managed to unscramble my brain and say something vaguely meaningful. Still, at least it made everyone laugh!
A big thank you to Cheryl, Beryl, Tod and Karen at the Book Circle. You can watch the episode here – http://www.mamamia.com.au.
Just watched you on The Book Circle Deb, fantastic! Looking good, and it was so nice to listen to all you ladies talking about your books, then I tried to purchase your book through Big W, but from here my system is not allowing me to do that. Have sent an SOS to my daughter to go get it at Big W. Congrats again!! And I can’t wait to read it!!

Fantastic. This is a great wee programme. Very informal and fun. Congrats on being invited and having done such a great job. Looking gorgeous too. Like Val I’ve been unable to get hold of a copy. I guess it’s only being marketed in Oz at the moment.
